This type of object symbolizes both the offering and the link to ancestral spirits.

FON, Bénin. Deux rares statues en fer martelé rappelant les statues dédiées à Gou, divinité du fer et de la guerre. 2ème moitié du XXème siècle. H.: 66,5 et 68 cm. Note: «Gou chez les Fon (Ogoun chez les Yorouba) est le Dieu de la guerre, des métaux et de tous ceux qui utilisent le fer. Ses emblèmes sont figurés sur sa coiffure : un hameçon (le tonnerre), un poignard et une lance (attributs du soldat), un serpent (le dieu arc-en-ciel), un couteau, une houe (attributs du cultivateur et du forgeron). Aujourd'hui, Gou est le dieu des chauffeurs et des mécaniciens».
