Description

*LÊ PHO (1907-2001) Young girls fishing. About 1956. Painting and Indian ink on silk mounted on cardboard, signed lower left. Framed. Galerie Romanet typewritten label on back. Galerie Romanet 18 avenue Matignon, Paris. Le Phô n° 256-90. 5P (5 landscape format). Number and title in colored pencil. Acquired directly from the Galerie. In the family by descent. Dimensions: 35x24 cm. This portrait of young girls in bloom is highly emblematic of the artist's artistic revival during this period. The very impressionistic brushwork - the cherry blossoms that outline the silhouettes are revealed by impasto material - the palette obviously reveals the great influence of Claude Monet or Pierre Bonnard, as much as Lê Phô's constantly renewed quest for new pictorial endeavors. Time is suspended in this scene of silent life. The harmony is that of an earthly Eden. The work will appear in the catalog raisonné currently being prepared by Alain Le Kim, the artist's successor in title. Following resolution of the sale for non-payment by the successful bidder and execution of a price guarantee, this lot is the property of the auction house, which is putting it back on sale, in accordance with article L. 321-5 of the French Commercial Code.
