An infantry officer's shako for an elite company of the 7th Regiment dating: 1812 - 1815 provenance: France, Following the Bardin regulations of 1812. Light, felt shaft, with black velvet lower band, badge of rank with 'cul dede'. Fire-gilded, eagle-shaped decoration with regiment number on the shell-guard. Membership of the elite company (grenadiers) is evident from the grenades on the sides of the eagle, the red pompom with flame, and the studs with flaming grenade. Visor with metal border. Original interior in poor condition. Chin-straps with fire-gilded brass scales (the left one has a small missing part). Tricolour silk cockade on gilded buttons. Peak (diam: 25 cm) in fair condition. Very rare and interesting. height shako 23 cm.
