Description
An ancient mask with round rimmed eyes, the edges of which bear witness to an ancient thicker patina or an ancient resin that was used to attach additional rimming around the eyes, usually in metal. The eyebrows in relief, the high rounded forehead and the mouth are beautifully sculpted. He wears a braided cotton beard. The patina of this ancient mask, originally thicker (probably also a sacrificial patina on the upper forehead) and of which there are obvious traces around the mouth of the eyes and all around, has been visibly cleaned to reveal the old layer of the mask's original reddish vegetable pigment. Dan, Ivory Coast Wood, iron, woven cotton beard, pigment, old indigenous restoration visible in iron staples, beautiful patina of use. H. 23.5 cm (without the beard).
