Lolita. P., The Olympia Press, 1955, 2 vol. in-12, br. in common openwork paper case (old trace of light wetness on the bottom edge of the second vol.). First edition of this mythical novel by the Russian-born American writer Vladimir Nabokov (1899-1977). It is Nabokov's masterpiece, which caused a scandal at the time, telling the story of a mature man's passionate love for a 12 year old girl. Rejected by all American publishers, it is in France that the work will be published in 1955 and will become one of the most famous novels of world literature. The first French translation was not published until 1959. Copy of the first edition, with the indication " Francs : 900 " on the second cover. In the second volume, this mention is covered by a stamp : " New Price Frs 1200 ". The pages go from 10 to 13 in the first volume, due to a pagination error. Rare and good copy.
