CHINE DYNASTIE QING, PÉRIODE GUANGXU (1875 - 1908)

= Important porcelain basin with incised and enamelled brown, green and white decoration on a yellow background, in the center two imperial dragons chasing the sacred pearl among clouds and flames. The wing slightly rounded, decorated with chrysanthemums, peonies, lotus and prunus. The rim with a frieze of six passing dragons. The reverse of the wing with four dragons chasing the pearl while the rim is decorated with cranes in flight alternating with clouds. The base with a Chu Xiu Gong Zhi mark in blue underglaze. D. 47 cm PROVENANCE Private Parisian collection of Mr. L. built up over three generations since the end of the 19th century. NOTE The Chu Xiu Gong Zhi mark can be translated as "Made for the Palace of the Collection of Excellence". This building, located in the "Six Western Palaces" wing of the Forbidden City, is famous for having been the residence of Empress Dowager Cixi (1835 - 1908).
