Inscribed below the image in Dutch and Latin "Arras of Atrecht, in Artoys, aan de Scarpe door Louys de XIII gewonnen, 1640; doch tot de Spaansche gekeerd, 1654". Signed in the plate and with indication of place: "Pet. Schenk exc. Amst C. P.". Date: c. 1712 Description: From: "Schouwburgh van den oorlog, beginnende van Koning Karel II. tot op Koning Karel III." Peter Schenk the Elder was a German engraver and cartographer from Elberfeld, now part of Wuppertal. Around 1684 he moved to Amsterdam and became a pupil of Gerard Valck, specialising in mezzotint; he travelled to Leipzig and Berlin. Until his death in 1718/19 he published numerous maps and pictures. The sheet is slightly discoloured due to its age and creased in places; slightly damaged at the upper edge and reinforced on the verso. The decorative sheet makes a very good impression.
