Füger", inscribed in the centre with: "Klopstock's Messias, Erster Gesang" and signed on the right with "Gestochen von Alb. Reindel. Date: 19th century Description: God appears to Christ praying on the Mount of Olives. With his left hand on his chest and his right raised to swear, he stands before the enraged God. The depiction shows a scene from the first canto of the heroic poem by Friedrich Gottlieb Klopstock, an epic in 20 cantos, from 1773. The paper is discoloured due to its age. The sheet is pale foxed. Bumped along the edges and occasionally torn. The corners are slightly bumped and creased.
