SNYERS (*1612) after JORDAENS (*1549), Portrait of Adam van Oort, Copper engraving Hendrick Snyers (around 1612 - after 1647 ) after Jacob Jordaens (1549 - 1678 ): Portrait of the Antwerp painter Adam van Oort from *Het Gulden Cabinet*, 17th century, Copper engraving Technique: Copper engraving on Paper, mounted on Paper Impression Quality: A good print, with clear details, rich black tones and well-defined hatching. Inscription: At the lower part signed in the printing plate: "Iacobus Iordaens pinxit. | Hend Snyers sculp. | Io. Meyssens exc.". At the lower part inscribed in the printing plate: "ADAM VAN OORT". Date: 17th century Description: A portrait of the painter Adam van Oort as an elderly man, depicted in half-length, turned slightly to the left, with his hands clasped in the foreground. The face depicts a man with a full white beard, curly, greying hair and an intense gaze. He is wearing a dark robe with a white shirt underneath. The background is rendered uniformly dark using delicate cross-hatching, whilst the figure is modelled in relief through varied layers of line work. Below the illustration are the number ‘25’, the name ‘ADAM VAN OORT’, as well as an explanatory biographical text in French and details of the painter, engraver and publisher. This work is thought to originate from the anthology *Het Gulden Cabinet*, which contained a large number of artists’ portraits.
