M. Date: 1844 Description: Freda Sophie Karoline Marie von Savigny, née Countess von Arnim (1831 Boitzenburg - 1905) is known to us as the wife of the Prussian envoy and co-founder of the Centre Party, Karl Friedrich von Savigny (1814-1875). As such, she accompanied her husband on diplomatic trips and had to take on numerous representative duties and attend social events herself. It is not the stately castle with towers and annexes on the distant hill that takes centre stage in this drawing, but the small half-timbered house by the wayside. Resembling a distant outbuilding or inn on the way to the next village, the small house stands above a high brick base. Rather inconsistent in its structure and façade design, it nevertheless seems to promise a cosy reception, as can be seen from the casually resting figures in front of it and the inconspicuous smoke above the chimney.
