Date: 1838 Description: View of a ruined church with neighbouring houses, in front of it the remains of an ancient column with base. Verso view of Villeneuve-lès-Avignon with Fort Saint-André. The drawing was made on a journey that took the English architect, cartographer, archaeological writer, art collector, numismatist and literary translator William Barnard Clarke to France between 1838 and 1839 and later to Italy in 1839.
