J. GOEZ (1754-1815), A mother with a grieving child, around 1790, Pen drawing Joseph Franz Von (Freiherr) von Goez (1754 Sibiu - 1815 Regensburg): Dead or dying mother with grieving child, c. 1790, Pen drawing Technique: Pen drawing and Charcoal on Paper Stamp: – Verso Collector's stamp, Lugt no.: 3549. Erhard Oskar Kaps. Leipzig. 20th century, 19th century – Verso Collector's stamp, Lugt no.: 3574. Sibyll Kaps. Leipzig. 20th century, 19th century Inscription: lower left inscribed by another person: "Jos Frz. Frh. von Goez 1754 Hermannstadt - 1815 Regensburg". Date: c. 1790 Description: The gentle face of the mother, whose head has sunk relaxed into the pillow, is barely recognisable in the quickly drawn depiction. Even more hidden, however, is the head of the crying child at her side, whose posture and gestures show an expression of great grief. The peaceful scene is disturbed not least by the tightly curved lines, which contrast with the calmly sketched figure of the reclining mother. | Watermark: Crown and ears of corn Provenance: Erhard Oskar Kaps, Leipzig; Sibyll Kaps, Leipzige Keywords: Death, mourning, vanitas, family, deathbed, deathbed, 18th century, Classicism, Portraits, Germany, Size: Paper: 21,5 cm x 37,0 cm (8,5 x 14,6 in) Condition: Rather good condition.
