1598 - The Bullfighter, Signed Romero Resendi, Spanish School, 20th Century

The Bullfighter, Signed Romero Resendi, Spanish School, 20th Century Oil on canvas. Canvas measurements: 100 x 81cm, framed measurements: 112 x 92 cm. The scene portrays a young bullfighter inside a room, holding his bullfighting jacket with a proud and confident air. His relaxed posture, smiling expression, and warm lighting highlight the character's humanity, far removed from the traditional epic nature of the bullring. Romero Resendi employs firm, vibrant brushstrokes, with rich chromaticism that oscillates between reddish, green, and gold tones, giving the painted surface a tactile and expressive effect. The composition, balanced between realism and theatricality, pays homage to the popular Spanish figure with an energetic and emotional visual language. The legacy of 20th-century costumbrismo (costumbism) is evident in his style, where the portrait becomes a vehicle of cultural identity and national pride.
