Ein monumentales Gemälde auf Leinwand, das die Beweinung des toten Christus darstellt. Angesichts seines ungewöhnlich großen Querformats und des textilen Trägers könnte das Werk ursprünglich als Epitaphios oder als ähnliches kirchliches Wandbehang gedient haben. 17.–18. Jahrhundert. Gemalt auf Leinwand. Der textile Untergrund wurde auf einen späteren Holzkeilrahmen und einen Rahmen aufgespannt. Zustand: umfangreiche altersbedingte Abnutzungserscheinungen an der Malfläche, mit Verblassen, Abrieb, vereinzelten Farbverlusten und kleinen Löchern. Auf der Rückseite sind alte Restaurierungen und Ausbesserungen sichtbar. Spätere Aufspannung und Rahmung. Zustandsbericht auf Anfrage erhältlich. Provenienz: Ehemalige Sammlung von Professor Jan Karel Steppe (1918–2009): belgischer Kunsthistoriker und Sammler, Gent.
