JOST, HENRICH Elbing Title: Vintage Silver Coin-set Tankard. Date: End 17th c. Material: Silver with partial and inner gilding. Weight ca. 1070g. Measurement: Height 18 cm. Seal: On foot and lid rim marked: inspection mark Elbing (Czihak Westpreussen no.2), maker's mark Henrich Jost (maker ca. 1684, ibid. no.46). Description: Domed base set with 14 three-groschen coins, interspersed with laurel decor. The cylindrical sides is divided into four further registers. The upper and middle registers are each set with 12 Polish three-groschen coins, while the remaining two registers each contain 12 Polish six-groschen coins. The spaces between them are filled with chased and engraved acanthus leaves and blossoms. The domed rim of the lid is set with 12 three-groschen coins and adorned with laurel leaves. Set into the base is a large commemorative medal dated 1683, celebrating the victory of Leopold I over the Ottoman forces during the Second Siege of Vienna. The interior of the lid contains a so-called 'Gluckenmedaille'. The cast handle with forked thumbpiece.
