GERARD BIJNENS (1944–2015) – „untitled“ – Mischtechnik – signiert – datiert 1996 – 73 × 53 cm Gerard Bijnens (1944–2015). His entire body of work is characterized by constant innovation, the result of a gradual process. Never following in the footsteps of other artists or movements—yet without ever forsaking his own identity—this innovation was fueled by the assimilation, omission, or reinforcement of specific elements within his work. In this way, he consistently preserved his artistic authenticity. Gerard Bijnens incorporates the cosmos into his work, blending austerity with emotion. His sensibility—nurtured by both strength and inspiration—remains in a state of tension; nevertheless, a formal balance is maintained on the canvas, even when the moving planes stand in sharp contrast to one another. He continues to create a "spatial" body of work through contrasting movements: verticals set against horizontals, or circular openings paired with equally rounded protuberances. There is also a persistent interplay of balance and contrast between gentle curves and sharper incisions.
