He is partial to working directly with writers, and did so in this case completely by mail. After he sent a set of etchings to Butor, the writer invented a text in parts, each referring to sections of the prints. The numbers given to each part of the text are also printed on glassine sheets overlaying the related prints, interrupting them as in a disturbed dream—the subject of this book.« (Riva Castleman).
