Das Konzept der an liberale Intellektuelle adressierten Zeitschrift wurde im Umfeld der Internationalen Arbeiterhilfe (IAH) erarbeitet, zunächst unter dem bis 1924 erschienenen Titel "Neue Kulturkorrespondenz".
