Prudent Louis Leray, Französisch, 1820–1879– Die Enten füttern; Öl auf Holztafel, signiert „L. Leray“ (unten rechts), 27,2 x 21,5 cm. Provenienz: Privatsammlung, Großbritannien. Anmerkung: Nach seinem Studium als Stipendiat am Collège in Nantes schrieb sich Leray an der École des Beaux-Arts der Stadt ein. Als Schüler von Paul Delaroche (1797–1856) stellte er ab 1844 im Salon aus und wurde für seine Genrebilder bekannt. Das vorliegende Werk ist typisch für seine reizvollen Hof- und Genreszenen und vergleichbar mit einem Werk, das am 9. Juli 2010 bei Christie’s in London, Los 321, für 2.000 £ verkauft wurde. Leray stellte häufig Figuren zusammen mit Tieren in Freiluftkulissen dar, wie ein weiteres Werk zeigt, das am 23. Oktober 2007 bei Sotheby’s in New York, Los 253, für 55.000 US-Dollar versteigert wurde.
