Date: 1827 Description: Multi-figure scene in antique costume in a temple. The youth of Athens is chosen as a sacrifice to the Minotaur. The young man standing defiantly in the shadows with his arms folded could be Theseus, who according to Plutarch is said to have defeated the Minotaur and was able to leave Minos' labyrinth thanks to Ariadne's cleverness. Large tear at upper right with adhesive tape fixation verso. Discoloured and somewhat bumped along the right edge of the sheet. The lower right corner of the sheet is creased and torn. Slightly creased in the lower left quarter of the sheet. The image makes a good impression overall.
