At the lower part inscribed in the printing plate: "Jacques Delille | On connoit pour terme à sa gloir, les confins du monde habité. Mais en mettra un à sa mémoire, C'est borne l'immortalité.". Date: 19th century Description: The bust portrait shows the French lyricist Jacques Delille in a slightly turned half-length view to the right. The elegant yet natural expression is effectively emphasised by the soft lighting and the flowing transitions of the mezzotint technique. With his clothing and loose scarf, typical of the period, he epitomises the cultivated intellectual of the late Enlightenment.
