F. RUSCHEWEYH (*1785) after ANGELICO (*1395), Abraham in a robe, 1823, Steel engraving Ferdinand von Ruscheweyh (1785 Neustrelitz - 1845 ibid.) after Fra Angelico (1395 Vicchio Bei Florenz - 1455 Rom): Abraham in a robe Abraham in contemplative pose with halo, 1823, Steel engraving Technique: Steel engraving on Paper Inscription: At the lower part signed in the printing plate: "B. Angelico da Fiesole pin. / Naeke del. / Ferd. Ruscheweyh sc.". Lower right dated: "Rome 1823". Date: 1823 Description: The picture shows a seated figure named as Abraham. He is clad in a long robe that emphasises both his figure and his posture. His face is framed by a thick beard and his hands are resting on his knees. A halo above his head indicates his sacred significance. The composition is minimalist, with Abraham placed in the centre, surrounded by a lot of empty space. The light falls evenly on the figure and emphasises the folds of the robe. The drawing is finely worked out, with particular attention to the draping of the fabric and the calm dignity of the person depicted.
