Unknown (18th), Dirk VII, Count of Holland, 1725, Copper engraving Unknown (18th century): Portrait of Dirk VII, Count of Holland, with sword and feathered hat, 1725, Copper engraving Technique: Copper engraving on Paper Date: 1725 Description: Full-length portrayal of Dirk VII against an architectural background with a scene from his life. He is wearing armour with a cloak and a plumed hat. In his right hand he holds a large sword, while a coat of arms shield protects his right shoulder. The decorative frame comes from a second printing plate (recognisable by the two plate edges) and shows armour, weapons, musical instruments and vanitas motifs. Slightly discoloured due to age. With brownish discoloured upper and left margins. Some corners of the sheet slightly damaged: lower left with brown stain, lower right slightly torn out and upper left slightly bumped. The surface of the image field is slightly rubbed in places: see Roman numeral "VII".
