Date: 18th century Description: The work shows a portrait of M. l'Abbé Marolle in an oval medallion. The man is wearing black clerical clothing with a white collar. His facial expression is serious and calm as he looks directly at the viewer. A decorative garland of oak leaves and flowers can be seen around the medallion. At the bottom is a plinth with inscriptions supporting the medallion. The background is a warm brown colour, while the frame is surrounded by blue paper. The composition is symmetrical and emphasises the portrait, while the lighting models the sitter's facial features.
