Date: 18th century Description: The portrait shows John Manners, Marquess of Granby, in three-quarter length, slightly in profile to the left, in an upright pose looking into the distance. Dressed in a richly decorated military uniform, he leans on a sword with his right hand while his left rests on a broad ribbon. The dramatic sky and the implied battle scene in the background emphasise his military rank.
