Date: 18th century Description: Half-length portrait of the scholar Robert Camell, seated at a table with quill and book, depicted in candlelight. The sitter is wearing a dark scholar's robe with a wide waistband, a bandage and a soft cap, while his left arm rests relaxed on the back of the chair. The composition emphasises him as a scholar and writer, in an impressive chiaroscuro effect.
