Fischart, 1626, Copper engraving Johann Christoph Sartorius (around 1650 Nuremberg - 1739 ): Portrait of the writer Johann Fischart (called "Mentzer", 1546-1591), 1626, Copper engraving Technique: Copper engraving on Paper Inscription: Signed and dated 1626 by the artist lower right. Date: 1626 Description: Half-length portrait in a decorative oak sheet frame. Depicts the early New High German author and jurist Fischart at the age of 69 in 1581. He is known for the work "Affentheurlich Naupengeheurliche Geschichtklitterung (1575)" and the Frankfurt Civil Code "Der Stadt Frankfurt erneuerte Reformation". Inscribed above and below the depiction in the printing plate with the sitter's name and dates of life as well as Latin text. Keywords: 17th century, Classicism, Portraits, Germany, Size: Paper: 28,8 cm x 16,6 cm (11,3 x 6,5 in), Depiction: 18,6 cm x 15,6 cm (7,3 x 6,1 in) Condition: Rather good condition. Rubbed in spots in places. Slight foxing and slightly soiled in places. A crease due to printing can be seen at bottom left. There is a restored marginal tear in the centre right. The corners of the sheet are minimally bumped and partly creased.
