Unknown (19th), View of a statue of a knight in a shell-shaped niche, Pencil Unknown (19th century): View of a knight statue in a shell niche at a tipping moment, 19th century, Pencil Technique: Pencil over Watercolor on Paper (brown) Date: 19th century Description: The artwork shows a detailed depiction of a knight's statue in an architectural niche, crowned by a large shell. The statue is wearing armour characterised by the typical leg and footwear of a medieval knight. A knight's helmet lies at the feet of the statue. The oblique angle is striking. It seems as if the statue is about to tilt to the left. The background with the shell niche is architecturally emphasised. The drawing is reminiscent of classical Renaissance statues and reflects the aesthetic mastery and historical interest of the period.
