ILLE (1823-1900), Satire, a donkey and Müller take a break at the inn, Pencil Eduard Valentin Joseph Karl Ille (1823 Munich - 1900 ibid.): Satirical depiction, donkey and miller resting at an inn, 19th century, Pencil Technique: Pencil on Paper Inscription: Signed "E Ille" in pencil lower right, inscribed "Juni" and "[. ]der Müller trinken Wein" in ink above and below the image. Date: 19th century Description: Satirical depiction of full-length figures. A miller and his donkey arrive at an inn, where they are served refreshments by an innkeeper and his daughter. This could be a design for the illustration of a short picture story, many of which are known to have been penned by Ille. Some were published as xylographs in the "Münchener Bilderbogen" series. Provenance: F. Wilhelm Denzel (20th century) Verso: Full-page engraving in preparation for a copy or transfer to a printing plate.
