"Esquisses faites par le Baron Edmond de Bretenières feudant les voyages en Suisse" (Sketches made by Baron Edmond de Bretenieres during his travels in Switzerland). | Watermark: Coat of arms and "RIVES" The drawing shows an idyllic landscape with a group of large trees in the foreground, their massive trunks and finely sketched leaves creating a natural backdrop. A simple, wooden building is visible in the background, surrounded by vegetation. A narrow path leads through the scene, at the end of which two small human figures appear as walkers or residents. The composition utilises the diagonal axis of the path to give the picture depth. The lighting conditions are soft, with the shading of the pencil drawing creating subtle contrasts. The scene radiates tranquillity and testifies to a harmonious relationship between man and nature.
