After GREUZE (*1725), Head study of a lady wearing a bonnet, around 1750, Charcoal After Jean-Baptiste Greuze (1725 Tournus - 1805 Paris): Head study of a lady wearing a bonnet, c. 1750, Charcoal Technique: White heightened Charcoal on Paper Date: c. 1750 Description: The depiction is modelled on Jean-Baptiste Greuze's Head Portrait of a Sleeping Woman. As in the present portrait, Greuze showed his wife at the moment of sleep with her mouth slightly open, her eyes closed and her curls falling out of her bonnet. In our portrait, as in Greuze's, the facial features are soft and finely drawn, while the dress and the background are created in bold, free strokes. Keywords: Study, Lady, Woman, Old Master, 18th century, Classicism, Portraits, France, Size: Paper: 34,4 cm x 25,8 cm (13,5 x 10,2 in) Condition: Good condition. The sheet has discoloured with age. With damage and tears to the paper in the lower left and upper right corners.
