Tom Sachs, exhibition poster "Space Program: Rare Earths", Deichtorhallen Hamburg 2021/2022 Paper, colour print. Exhibition poster for the exhibition "Space Program: Rare Earths" by Tom Sachs at the Deichtorhallen Hamburg, 19 September 2021 to 10 April 2022. In the centre a colour photograph of a figure in a white spacesuit with helmet, backpack and hoses, name tags "SMITH" on helmet and chest, "NASA" emblem. At the top "Tom Sachs" in script, below "SPACE PROGRAM:" and in orange "RARE EARTHS", at the bottom the exhibition dates and "DEICHTORHALLEN HAMBURG", at the foot "#TOMSACHSHAMBURG" and a grey strip with "HALLE FÜR AKTUELLE KUNST" and sponsor credits. 83.5x60 cm (HxW). Tom Sachs, born in New York in 1966, studied at the Architectural Association in London in 1987 and graduated from Bennington College in 1989. The sculptor recreates icons of modernity from simple materials such as plywood, foamcore and duct tape in a working method described as bricolage, leaving all joints visible; his works are held in the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum and the Guggenheim Collection, among others. The Hamburg show was the fourth exhibition of his Space Program series after Gagosian 2007, the Park Avenue Armory 2012 and the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco 2016. On more than 3,000 square metres of the Halle für aktuelle Kunst, Sachs staged a fictional space mission to the asteroid Vesta, on which astronauts mine rare earths; visitors were trained as crew members in an orientation and experienced replicated stations such as the lunar module and Mission Control. The Deichtorhallen advertised the show with this exhibition poster, an art poster in portrait format. German Description Tom Sachs, Ausstellungsplakat „Space Program: Rare Earths“, Deichtorhallen Hamburg 2021/2022 Papier, Farbdruck.
