Janko, Seated Nude in Stockings and Evening Glove, Pin-up Nude, Erotic Painting, 20th Century Oil on canvas, signed upper left, 20th century, seated female nude with shoulder-length blond hair, head tilted to one side, gaze towards the viewer, long drop earrings, a long black evening glove on the supporting arm, stockings with dark tops, seated on a blue blanket, on the left a pink cushion with white frill, age-appropriate condition, tear and hole in the canvas at the top partly overpainted/filled, pressure marks at the edges, image 60x50.5 cm (HxW) The female nude remained a principal subject of painting in the 20th century, reinterpreted from Expressionism through Cubism to Pop Art. Study of the nude from the living model has been the central discipline of academic training since the Carracci. Props such as the evening glove and stockings link this pin-up nude to the pin-up painting of the 20th century, whose full-length pictures of women in lingerie were created by painters such as Gil Elvgren, Alberto Vargas and George Petty in oil on canvas or board; this seated female nude likewise stands between nude painting and the boudoir picture. German Description Janko, Sitzender Akt in Strümpfen und Abendhandschuh, Pin-up-Akt, Erotische Malerei, 20. Jh.
