Valve Trombone Meister Dotzauer in its Case, Mouthpiece Yamaha Japan Brass, nickel silver, wood, textile. Valve trombone with a widely flaring bell, three rotary valves with paddle levers and an attached tuning slide. Engraved on the bell „Meister Dotzauer". With the mouthpiece, marked „Yamaha Japan". In the matching black case with metal catches, lined inside with blue felt and with supports for the instrument. Played condition commensurate with age, the instrument dented, rubbed and scratched, the case with traces of use, on the outside with remains of torn-off labels, the felt inside with repaired areas. L. 111 cm Unlike the slide trombone, the valve trombone alters the length of tubing by means of valves; it is therefore quicker under the fingers and was preferred in wind bands, in dance and military music and in the Bohemian and Moravian repertoire. Rotary valves are the form of construction usual in Central Europe. The Dotzauer workshop stands in the Markneukirchen tradition of brass instrument making in the Vogtland; the engraved word Meister denotes the superior production line. On brass instruments the mouthpiece is an interchangeable accessory and here comes from a different maker than the instrument itself.
