Two Meissen Plates Indian Painting Green with Border, 2nd Half 20th c. Porcelain, two cancellation strokes, painted in green and black, gilt, glazed. Two plates by the State Porcelain Manufactory Meissen with a plain, shallowly rising rim. In the well the Indian painting in green with a peony and a chrysanthemum, leafy scrolls and one large serrated leaf, together with fine black feathered scrolls; on the rim an encircling border of green and black spiral scrolls between two lines, the edge with a gold line. On the bases the underglaze blue crossed swords and the pattern number 340310. Hangers are glued to the reverses. Good condition. D. 17.5 cm each. The manufactory lists the pattern as Indian painting 2, with border, green, gold dots and gold rim, and describes the motif as peony and chrysanthemum. Kante, the border, is a distinct element of the name at Meissen for a painted edge motif; it also occurs in other patterns such as the sheaf pattern. The purple counterpart bears the number 340410, the more richly painted version 343410. Cancellation strokes through the crossed swords denote second quality ware.
