Two KPM Berlin Biedermeier portrait cups, commemorating 1814 Porcelain, gilt, glazed. Two Biedermeier portrait cups by the Royal Porcelain Manufactory (KPM) Berlin. The first is a double-portrait cup with two ruler portraits, the gold inscription 'Heil Euch im Siegerkranz' and the date 'Den 31. Maerz 1814'; the matching saucer shows in its well a city map (probably of Paris), framed by a cobalt-blue ground and gold decoration. The second cup with gold decoration and a portrait cartouche, with a white saucer with gold rim. On the undersides the KPM sceptre mark. Condition: the first cup restored, its saucer with chips; on the second cup the gold heavily rubbed. Cup h. 7 cm. The inscription 'Heil Euch im Siegerkranz' quotes the Prussian royal anthem; the date '31 March 1814' marks the entry of the allied troops into Paris, which brought the Wars of Liberation against Napoleon to their victorious conclusion. Such commemorative cups by the Royal Porcelain Manufactory Berlin - taken over by Frederick the Great in 1763 - are sought-after testimonies of the Biedermeier and Wars-of-Liberation era. A historically significant pair for collectors of Berlin porcelain. German Description Zwei KPM Berlin Biedermeier Portrait-Tassen, Erinnerung an 1814 Porzellan, goldstaffiert, glasiert.
