Meissen Marcolini place setting, Indian flowers in purple, first choice, circa 1800 Porcelain, Indian floral painting in purple (camaieu), gilt, glazed, first choice. Place setting of cup and saucer by the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory from the Marcolini period. The wall and the saucer well show a finely painted 'Indian floral painting' in purple - stylised flowering and leafy branches after East Asian models - complemented by gold rims. On the undersides the underglaze-blue crossed-swords mark with star (Marcolini mark). Age-appropriate condition, saucer and cup with a crack, the cup with rim restorations and partial decor abrasion. Cup h. 4.5 cm. The Marcolini period (1774-1814) is named after Count Camillo Marcolini, under whose direction Meissen added a star to the crossed-swords mark. The 'Indian floral painting' derives from East Asian models of Kakiemon and Imari painting that shaped European porcelain in the 18th century; the execution in purple camaieu lends the setting a fine, restrained note. An early collector's piece from the oldest porcelain manufactory in Europe. German Description Meissen Marcolini Gedeck, indische Blumen purpur, 1. Wahl, um 1800 Porzellan, indische Blumenmalerei in Purpur (Camaieu), goldstaffiert, glasiert, 1. Wahl.
