Turkish percussion military rifle, full stock, four barrel bands, stamp “IAC 764”, 19th century Iron and wood, full-stocked percussion rifle, military rifle, muzzleloader, Turkey, 19th century, calibre 19 mm. Round barrel, the struck inscription “IAC 764” at the breech, full stock with four barrel bands, two brass-coloured and two of iron, on the opposite side a long silver-coloured stock mount. Percussion lock with flat lock plate rounded at the rear, hammer, nipple, iron trigger guard, wrist with angularly stepped back, on the side of the butt a silver-coloured patchbox lid with keyhole-shaped cut-out. Age-appropriate condition, mechanism functional, the end of the butt attached with a visible joint. L. 144 cm The percussion lock is based on the percussion cap system patented by Alexander John Forsyth in 1807: the hammer strikes the percussion cap on the nipple and thus ignites the charge. In the 19th century this ignition replaced the flintlock and remained in use until the advent of breechloaders around the mid-19th century. The patchbox lid with keyhole cut-out closes the compartment in the butt in which patches and percussion caps were carried. The four barrel bands over the fore-end and the angularly stepped wrist shape the appearance of this Ottoman percussion rifle. German Description Türkisches Perkussionsgewehr, Militärgewehr, Vollschaft, vier Laufbänder, Stempel „IAC 764“, 19. Jh. Eisen und Holz, vollgeschäftetes Perkussionsgewehr, Militärgewehr, Vorderlader, Türkei, 19. Jh., Kaliber 19 mm. Jhs. in Gebrauch.
