French cuirassier sword (pallasch), probably model 1816, brass hilt, double-fullered blade Steel, brass, leather. French cuirassier sword (pallasch), probably model 1816, first half 19th century, heavy cavalry sword: brass hilt with knuckle bow and three secondary branches with ball terminals, guard with flat upturned end, brass pommel cap with rivet button, grip with black leather covering and twisted wire binding, leather washer at the blade root. Straight blade with rounded back, central point and double fullers on both sides, without blade inscription. Two stamps "39" and "R" with a dot above and the number "323" on the knuckle bow. Without scabbard. Age-appropriate good condition with patina, grip binding probably renewed later. L. 115 cm, blade length 98 cm The pallasch is the straight cutting and thrusting sword of the heavy cavalry. French cuirassiers already carried the four-branch brass hilt on the model An IX; the model An XI of 1802/03 introduced the double-fullered blade from the Klingenthal manufactory. The hilts were made at Versailles and Klingenthal, whose controllers struck their stamps into hilt and blade. After the end of the Empire the form was continued as model 1816 for the line cavalry. Nach dem Ende des Kaiserreichs wurde die Form als Modell 1816 für die Linienkavallerie weitergeführt.
