(c. 1749). 55.4 x 40.7 cm (plate); 72.1 x 50.9 cm (sheet). Focillon 32; Hind 9 I (of III); Wilton-Ely 34; Robison 35 II (of VIII); Ficacci 118. Plate IX from: Carceri d'Invenzione. A fine lifetime impression of Robison’s second state (of eight), with the artist’s signature added in the image at the lower left and with the scratch in the white area of the smoke, which is burnished out in the lower thirds in later impressions. From the First Edition, First and Second Issues, published by G. Bouchard, Rome, 1749–circa 1758. With wide margins around the uncleaned plate edges. – With the characteristic flattened central fold, pale light-staining and foxing. The edges slightly soiled. Otherwise in good condition. Very rare in this early state of printing. Taxation: regelbesteuert (VAT: Regular Taxation).
