A very fine, black and early lifetime impression of Robison’s first state (of six), printing with a light, selectively wiped tone. From the First Edition, Second Issue, published by the artist in Rome, circa 1749–60. Before the addition of the second bridge in the background at right, which appears from the Second Edition onwards, and before the addition of the Roman numeral at upper left and the number ‘351’. With wide margins around the partially uncleaned plate edges. – With the characteristic flattened central fold. Verso with a few minor spots. Otherwise in good condition. Extremely rare in this early state. Taxation: regelbesteuert (VAT: Regular Taxation).
