Zoologie Henry, Aimé Zwei Werke. Affen. Zoology. - Two plates. From: Natural History Atlas. Each a hand-coloured lithograph on vellum. With the typographical title in Latin and German, as well as the systematic classification. Sheets each age-browned, partially somewhat stained, bumped at the edges, here and there with remnants of earlier mounting and a few creases and glazes. Overall good. Magnificent, large-format prints with a nuanced, chalky effect. - These two finely executed lithographs after Aimé Henry combine precise scientific observation with a painterly approach that was remarkably sophisticated for its time, with a particular focus on fur texture and the modelling of the body. Depicted are a colobus monkey (Colobus polykomos) and a black-crested macaque (Pygathrix nemaeus), whose names and systematic classification still follow the early taxonomy of Illiger ("Quadrumana"). The prints thus vividly document the state of scientific knowledge prior to the establishment of modern zoological classification systems. Dieses Los ist regelbesteuert.
