Theologie Hunnius, Aegidius Christliche Erklärung deß streitigen Artickels / Von der Erbsünde / In welcher der Underscheidt verderbter Menschlicher Natur / und der Erbsündt / auß Gottes Wort / und den Schrifften D. Lutheri ... Frankfurt, Spieß, 1585. 8 Bll., 41 Bll., 1 Bl. (Errata). (Mod.) Theology. - After the death of Martin Luther and in the course of the drafting of the Formula of Concord (1577), fierce disputes broke out within Lutheranism. The theologian Matthias Flacius had claimed that original sin was the very "substance" of fallen man. In his commentary, Hunnius opposed such radical currents as well as Catholic and Calvinist positions. He helped to define the official Lutheran doctrine, according to which original sin is a profound accident (a corruptor of nature), but not the substance of man himself as created by God. The paper is somewhat browned with age and lightly foxed, with a dampstain in the lower margin of the leaves. Leaf b2 shows a restored tear at the uppermost outer margin, without loss of text.
