Mido Limited - Multi-Centerchrono (*) An anti-magnetic vintage wrist chronograph with central 60-minute counter, 24-hour display, tachymeter and telemeter scale, produced for the US-American market Movm. No. 220, Cal. 1300, Case No. 813813, Dimensions 35 mm, circa 1950, Origin Schweiz, Original box Case: Gold-plated, steel screw back, Brit. Pat. 385509 (Improvements in fluid-tight watches by Taubert et Fils, Geneva), anti-magnetic protection cap. Dial: Silvered, taupe and black. Movm.: Manual. This Multi-Centerchrono has a three-coloured dial with charmingly aged, luminous Arabic numerals and sword-shaped luminous hands, as well as a telemeter scale and a circumferential tachy scale in miles. The company Mido was established in 1918 by George G. Schaeren in Biel/Bienne in Switzerland. The name "Mido" comes from the Spanish expression "Yo mido" and means "I measure". In the 1920, Mido launched colourful enamel wristwatches for ladies in extravagant forms and with modern bracelets, as well as gentlemen’s Art Deco style wristwatches. The legendary Multicenterchrono, which entered serial production in 1941, was the first chronograph capable of displaying elapsed time with centrally mounted hands positioned directly in the centre of the dial - thus ensuring perfect readability during time measurement. The minute and seconds hands of the chronograph, as well as the regular hour and minute hands, were all placed at the centre of the dial rather than in subsidiary registers at 3, 6 or 9 o’clock - hence the name “Multicenterchrono.” Case: very good. Dial: very good, slightly oxydized. Movm.: very good, capable of running, cleaning recommended.
