A. Lange & Söhne - LANGE 1 A very attractive, early Glashuette wristwatch with Lange oversize date, power reserve indicator, twin barrel, 72 hours power reserve and transparent sapphire crystal back. This LANGE 1 is an early, carefully preserved model featuring the L901.0 calibre and early MIG logo Movm. No. 1275, Ref. 101.022 (101.002), Cal. L901.0, Case No. 112086, Dimensions 38,5 mm, circa 1996, Origin Deutschland, Original box, Original certificate, Accessories, gold original clasp Case: 18 K gold, sapphire glass screwed on back, pusher at "10" for quick setting of the calendar. Dial: Solid silver, argenté, printed numerals and indexes, blued steel hands. Movm.: Manual. In October 1994, the LANGE?1 was presented for the first time, initially in gold and in platinum. In gold, two variants were available: one with gold hands (reference 101.001), which later achieved cult status, and this lesser-known version with blued hands and an argenté dial with printed indexes (reference 101.002). Both variants feature the calibre L901.0, used until 2015, which already in 1994 possessed all the hallmark qualities of A.?Lange?&?Söhne - a hand-wound movement with double barrel and an impressive power reserve of 72 hours. The reference system used by A.?Lange?&?Söhne in 1994 - 101.001/002 for gold and 101.005 for platinum - was changed around 1997/1998 to the system still in use today, becoming 101.021/.022 for yellow gold and 101.025 for platinum. The combination of a yellow gold case, silver dial and blued steel hands lend the watch a simple but elegant presence. The sapphire crystal back reveals the ¾ nickel silver plate, hand-engraved balance cock and the screwed gold chatons – every detail proves the superior craftsmanship. When it launched in 1994, the LANGE 1 certainly broke the mould with the design of its dial. All indications are in peripheral positions, which gives the watch its distinctive appearance and at the same time ensures perfect readability, because none of the displays overlap. The design of the LANGE 1 follows a coherent principle: the centres of the subsidiary seconds dial, the main dial and the outsize-date display are at the corners of an isosceles triangle. The proportions of the outsize-date display are harmonious as well: they respect the rule of the golden ratio. Case: very good. Dial: very good.
